UK and Ireland Passport Photo Guides
UK passport photo codes, digital and printed photos, children, countersignatures, visas and the Irish passport, from GOV.UK and the Irish Passport Service.
A UK passport photo is 35 x 45 mm when printed, and a digital photo for the online application must be at least 600 x 750 pixels. Most people now apply online with a photo code or a file taken at home, while paper applications still need printed photos and, in some cases, a countersignature. Ireland uses a similar size but its own digital rules, including a larger minimum resolution for online applications.
The guides below cover both countries: digital and printed photos, children and babies, countersignatures, UK visa photos and the Irish passport, each sourced from GOV.UK or the Irish Passport Service and dated when it was last checked.
For the photo itself, the UK passport photo, UK visa photo and Irish passport photo pages list the exact size, file limits and background each one asks for, and run a free check against them.
