Schengen and European Visa Photo Guides
Schengen visa photos, country-by-country differences, residence permits and ETIAS, sourced from the consulates that issue them.
Schengen visa photos are 35 x 45 mm in almost every member state, with the face taking up most of the frame on a light, plain background. The common size hides real differences: consulates in different countries publish their own wording on background color, head size and how recent the photo must be.
These guides compare what each consulate actually asks for, and cover residence permits and the ETIAS travel authorisation, whose official pages list no photo. Where two official sources disagree, the guide says so rather than picking one.
The Schengen visa photo page holds the strictest common values, 35 x 45 mm with the face at 70 to 80 percent of the height, and checks your photo against them for free. Your consulate's own checklist always wins over ours.
