What the passport photo checker measures

Pick the document you are applying for and the checker loads its published specification: the print size or pixel dimensions, how much of the frame the head must fill, and the background the authority asks for. It then crops your photo to that frame and measures head size and position, head tilt, the background, sharpness and lighting, and tells you which checks pass and which need a new photo. The documents page lists every specification it supports.

Checking is free. You pay only to download the finished file: $4.99 for the digital file, $6.99 with a print sheet.

What it can't decide for you

Some rules no software can confirm, such as whether the photo was taken recently, and some documents must be photographed by a commercial studio. Each document page says where that applies. Only the authority that issues your document decides whether a photo is accepted. Our methodology explains how every specification is sourced, and the guides cover each rule in detail.
